Learn all about the history of the Brunswick Islands’ dangerous brushes with pirates at this event that takes place at one of the coastal region’s oldest and most popular attractions. The 270th Anniversary of Spanish Attack tells the tale of two lesser known pirates that launched a harrowing assault on Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson through a vivid reenactment that brings the story to life.
The 270th Anniversary of Spanish Attack is held on the grounds of the Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site, and is an engaging event that will fascinate history buffs of all ages. During the day’s event, visitors will see first-hand a reenactment of the attack of the Spanish pirates Vincent Lopez and Leon Muños on the small fort and village, as the two sides meet face to face on the battlefield. Costumed interpreters will be on hand to explain the story, as well as the setting of the fort and community, and visitors of all ages will have an opportunity to meet both the local militia and Spanish privateers. Engaging for all ages, the 270th Anniversary of Spanish Attack is a unique historical event that unveils a unique and fairly unknown chapter in the history of coastal North Carolina.
