Tips and Tricks to get the best Wilmington vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Wilmington. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Brunswick area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your search:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Historic Downtown Wilmington Studio-Location,Location,Location!! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
