Zebulon Latimer House

Take a step back in time and dive into an antebellum world of charm and culture with a visit to the exquisite Zebulon Latimer House. Located in the heart of the historic downtown region, and just a couple blocks away from the Cape Fear Riverfront, this distinctive residence is the decades-long home of the local Historical Society, and is an eye-catching landmark during any self-guided or professional tour of the Port City.

The home was built in 1852 by merchant Zebulon Latimer, and has an opulent exterior that serves as a fine representation of the Italianate style. Spanning four stories, the home is perfectly symmetrical, with an identical layout on every floor that’s anchored by a central hallway. Boasting a total of 600 historical relics within the 14 rooms, the home is a popular tourist attraction for visitors who want to soak up the pre-Civil War atmosphere. Surrounded by lush gardens and protected by lace-brick and stucco walls, visitors can enjoy an in-depth view of this elite world via a number of guided tours which accentuate the pieces, architecture, and stories that make this home stand out in a crowd. A true jewel on the local historic scene, the Zebulon Latimer House is an iconic site within Wilmington’s downtown.
