Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer months are high season in Bald Head Island. To find the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Brunswick area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Make a plan and pick the rightrental:

  • Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. East Beach Marsh Access Fishing and Views Keepers Landing Shoals Club has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
