How to book the best rental home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Oak Island. To get the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Brunswick area attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Brunswick area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Brunswick area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Brunswick area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. The Sandcastle: Upscale Large Oceanfront Home with Private Pool and Elevator has 11 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Brunswick area rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
