Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

When to visit Sunset Beach & When to book:

  • In the Brunswick area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the largest rental for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Brunswick area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First, have your family select the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Snowbird-friendly condo with pools, tennis, balcony, pond views, & on-site golf has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Advice for a great stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
