Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Brunswick area vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are high season in Oak Island. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Brunswick area attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Brunswick area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Brunswick area area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Brunswick area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best rental home in Oak Island:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 4 BR 2 BA OCEANFRONT COTTAGE - Summer Special! FREE Linens with Weekly Rental has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Brunswick area vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
During your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
